Overview

This solution lets you achieve this goal. just the facts, ma’am. Highly concise, high level description. More facts, ma’am. Still being very concise. Should have one paragraph here, no more. Just a few sentences, less than 4 lines of textMini 1PM is designed for shallow wall boxes where larger relays and smart switches don’t fit. Wiring is simple, as the relay only requires neutral, line, load, and an input from the switch. The relay can also be installed at the fixture for direct control, though using a switch in this scenario will disable the relay. If the circuit uses a switch loop, the switch can still be used as an input when the relay is wired at the fixture.

Note

If you’re not experienced with electrical wiring, you should work with a licensed electrician to complete this solution.

Instructions

  • Open Shelly Smart Control on your phone. *

  • Navigate to the room where your EM is set up.

  • Click on your EM (or the first entry, if you have two channels set up)

  • Look for icons on the left. The bottom icon looks like a single gear. Tap it.

  • Tap "Device information"

  • Write down the IP address.

  • On a computer that is connected to the same network as your Shelly EM, open a web browser and type in the IP address. This will load the web interface for Shelly EM.

  • Go to the "Settings" menu.

  • Click "Firmware Version" (See Screen Cap 1 below)

  • If not current, update firmware before proceeding.

  • Click the "Actions" menu.

  • Select "Channel 1 Over Power"

  • Click Enable.

  • Enter 2000 in the field for "When power consumption (W) is over:"

  • In the "URL to be hit" field, enter:  http://localhost/relay/0?turn=on

  • Click Save

  • Repeat the same steps for "Channel 1 Under Power" but use 1950 instead of 2000 and use this URL: http://localhost/relay/0?turn=off

  • Click Save.

  • Go to the "Settings" menu

  • Select "Device Reboot"

  • Click "Yes" when prompted at the top of the screen.

  • I tested this on my own desk this morning to make sure it all works
    Info

    Important:

Mini 1PM Gen3 requires neutral to function
    Maximum load is 8 amps.

    Instructions

    1. Turn off the breaker controlling this lighting circuit.

    2. Use a voltage detector to make sure the circuit is not energized.

    3. Connect a neutral wire from the load center (breaker panel) to Mini 1PM’s N terminal.

    4. Connect line (hot) from the load center (breaker panel) to Mini 1PM’s L terminal.

    5. Connect line (hot) from the load center (breaker panel) to the light switch’s bottom pole.

    6. Connect the light switch’s top pole to Mini 1PM’s SW terminal.

    7. Connect load (the wire going to your light fixture) to Mini 1PM’s O terminal.

Top Use Cases for Mini 1 1PM Gen3

Shelly Mini 1 Gen3 uses Shelly’s smallest form factor enclosure. This makes the product ideal for:

    • Shallow gang box installation

    • Dry contact switching

    • Offsite control of low amperage circuits.Power measurement

    • Switches and outlets

Note: Shelly Plus 1 requires separate power supply for the dry contact relay, meaning both the L and I terminals must be populated for the device to work. If powering Shelly Plus 1 via 12vdc, the 12v (rather than L) and I terminals must be poweredMini 1PM Gen3 is limited to 8 amps. It is critical to verify the total load for lighting circuits controlled by this product will not exceed the product maximum prior to installation. To determine total load of a lighting circuit, add the total draw of all bulbs used in fixtures downstream of the relay.

    Best product for light switches

Shelly Plus 1PM is the best choice for use with on/off control of lighting circuits:

    • 15 amp maximum capacity UL version, 16 amp maximum capacity standard version

    • Power measurement

    • Simplified wiring (no wire nuts or Wago connectors required)

    • Over wattage protection

    • Over current protection

    • Over voltage protection

    • Under voltage protection

Note: All Shelly Plus and Pro relays offer over temperature protection.
