The integration of advanced control and monitoring solutions for garage doors is not just about adding convenience for the homeowner; it's also about elevating security and efficiency within the smart home ecosystem. This technical guide is designed to facilitate the installation of a Shelly Plus Uni, combined with a 12V DC power supply and a reed switch, to achieve refined control over garage doors. This configuration not only supports remote operation but also enables precise status monitoring via the Shelly app, introducing a superior layer of automation and intelligence to your installations.
Required Components
A reed switch (not provided by Shelly)
A 12V DC power supply (not provided by Shelly)
Garage Security+ 2.0 Adapter (Only for Security+ 2.0 Garage Door Openers)
Some components needed for this solution will need to be sourced elsewhere.
Use a 2-wire reed switch rugged enough to withstand the elements to which it is exposed.
The 12V DC power supply should have a minimum rated output of 1 Amp
Wiring Diagrams
Shelly Plus Uni with a Reed Switch
The wiring diagram below apply to standard (non-Security+ 2.0 openers).
The Reed Switch in the above installation methodology is connected as if it were a digital sensor. Installing in this manner will give the best result when it comes to door status indication.

Multi-Door Standard Wiring

Multi-Door Security+ 2.0 Wiring
The wiring diagram below apply to Security+ 2.0 openers.
Security+ 2.0 Wiring is the same accross all implementations. Using the Garadget Adapter as a replacment to the exisiting garage door button while providing a normally open, dry contact input will simplify installation.
As with all Security+ 2.0 installation the Garadget Adapter gets wired between the output from the Shelly Device and the garage door opener.
While a single Shelly Plus UNI can give control and status of two garage doors, wiring will need to run between both. In most scenarios it will be best to mont the Plus Uni near one of the garage door openers instead of in a central location.
Shelly Smart Control App Configuration
Adding the device to Shelly Smart Control.
The relay is now included in the Shelly app and registered to a Cloud Account. It can be controlled from any location where internet is available.
Updating the Firmware of the Device.
Tap the device to update.
Tap the Settings button.
Tap the Firmware version dropdown.
The option to enable auto-update is presented, as is the current and available firmware version. Tap Update, then tap Update again.
The device updates
The update process may take several moments and require resetting the device. It is not recommended to perform a firmware update if the device is not physically reachable.
Certain devices may need to be “awoken” to apply the update. In this case, once the update has been completed within the Smart Control app, press the device’s button for the firmware update to take effect.
