The incorporation of advanced control and monitoring solutions for motorized gates goes beyond enhancing convenience for homeowners; it also enhances security and efficiency within the home ecosystem. This technical guide details the installation process of a Shelly Plus 1 powered by 24vDC supplied by the gate circuit board, paired with a reed switch, to achieve precise control over motorized gates. This setup facilitates remote operation and allows for accurate status monitoring through Shelly Smart Control, introducing a higher level of automation and intelligence to your installations.

Required Components

  • A reed switch (not provided by Shelly)

  • Shelly IP6610755 Enclosure – This enclosure is specifically designed for robust outdoor applications with IP66 protection.

Some components needed for this solution will need to be sourced elsewhere.

The Shelly IP6610755 might not be essential for many scenarios. It is recommended to assess the space within current motorized gate controllers to decide if its use is required.

Use a 2-wire reed switch rugged enough to withstand the elements to which it is exposed.

Standard Wiring Diagrams

The circuit boards depicted in these diagrams are for demonstration purposes only. Please confirm the wiring of the system you are working with before proceeding.

Shelly Plus 1 with a Reed Switch

In the above diagram the Reed Switch is “switching” Negative DC Voltage. While it will work in reverse (with the Reed Switch, “switching” positive), it is generally safer and the industry standard to wire as shown above.

Shelly Plus 1 with Plus Add-on and a Reed Switch

Shelly Plus 1 Addon Reed Switch.png

While the Shelly Plus Addon above is shown off to the side, in a real application it will mount directly to the Shelly Plus 1. There is no wiring between the two.

The Reed Switch in th8is methodology is connected as if it were a digital sensor.

Installing in this manner will give the best result when it comes to gate status indication and allow for a sensor type of Garage Door be set to make that door status even more graphical.

Shelly Smart Control App Configuration
